The Beericana Hangover is Finally Over!

Posted by on Oct 24, 2014

For those of you who made it out to Beericana last month, thank you! Because of you, the NC Brewers Guild and the Meg’s Smile Foundation received checks so they can continue doing the important work they’re both doing. For those of you who didn’t make it out to Beericana, we missed you and we hope you’ll be able to make it next year on 9/12/15 (mark your calendars!). Other than the podcast (available on Stitcher  and iTunes), I haven’t been as vocal as usual (at least as far as the blog is concerned) and I’ve decided that needs to change. So, consider this my reinstatement into the blogosphere. The main reason for my absence is simply not having enough hours in the day to be thoughtful enough to write something that is of any worth. But, considering some stuff I see out there on the interwebs, I figure something is better than nothing. With that being said, the first order of business will be heading up to Haw River Farmhouse Ales for their much anticipated Grand Opening! In two hours, I’m thinking Saxapahaw’s population might triple for the evening. I couldn’t be more excited to taste everything Ben and Nathan have been working on! If you’re planning on joining in on the fun, come say hello. I’ll be the guy acting like he knows what he’s talking about, but really just hanging out with people who actually do. Beyond Haw River, my schedule is pretty open. But, I’ll be sure to get back to documenting some beer adventures as they happen. In the meantime, listen to last week’s podcast and have a great weekend! My Haw River report will come out soon enough. I promise!   Cheers!...

The VIP Beericana Experience

Posted by on Aug 4, 2014

“What’s so special about these VIP tickets? Why are they $75 when General Admission is $45? Is it really worth it?” If you’re asking me, I’ll tell you it is. For me. However, just because I think it’s worth the extra $30 doesn’t mean that you’ll agree. But, if you’ve not yet made up your mind, take a look at what we’re doing for the VIP tent and then decide if you think it’s worth the extra money or not. -VIP admission begins at noon. I went to Disney World one October, when I was in sixth grade, and I rode Space Mountain seven times in a row, without waiting in a line. It’s pretty much going to be like that. This means that an exclusive number of festival-goers will get in 90 minutes before general admission for no holds barred access to the event. Not only are they welcome in their VIP area, but they have the ability to go around to as many of the brewery tents as they want, without lines. They can use this time to chat with brewers and learn about their beers, and maybe even become fast friends (or not). -Special bathrooms and beers! Not only do they get in early, they will have their own 20′ x 40′ tent that only they’re allowed in, which will have special beers only for them. In addition to the VIP tent, they’ll have access to VIP-only bathrooms. Yes, there will be plenty of bathrooms throughout the festival that VIPs are allowed to use, as well. But there will also be extras, just for them! And, oh yeah, I said special beers. We’ve got some breweries from all over the state that will not be available in the general admission area, but they’re sending a special keg or two our way just for VIPs! Wanna know how that list is shaping up? OK… -NoDa: What Gose Round, Gordgeous, Hop Drop n Roll -BirdSong: Jalapeno Pale Ale -Twin Leaf: TBA -One World: TBA -Burial: TBA -Wicked Weed: Freak of Nature -Raleigh: Special Cask -BearWaters: TBA -Aviator: Special Cask Plus, we’ll have a few extra goodies to throw in there as well. We don’t want to give it all away just yet. So, there you have it. You get in 90 minutes earlier than everyone else to roam the festival grounds. You’ll get access to special release kegs throughout the day in the VIP tent. And,...

Weekend Tappenings…

Posted by on Jul 17, 2014

Summertime is a great time of year: Memorial Day, Fourth of July, vacations, and summer break! Remembering back to my younger days, I loved going to summer camp. I couldn’t wait for a week without my parents overseeing everything I did!  Now that I am an adult (only by age), I wish there were an adult summer camp – a way to escape from work, responsibility, and my kids (whom I love dearly, but lets face it – 3 under 3 is hard work)! What does this have to do with what’s tappening? Read on! Friday In anticipation of the Adults-only summer camp Sierra Nevada’s “Beercamp Across America” August 3rd in Mills River, Tyler’s Taproom in Raleigh has the perfect way prepare! Starting at 4 pm, they will be hosting the Sierra Nevada Beer Camp Across America Tasting! Individual pours and/or flights will be available of the different collaborations. If you are feeling the heat, then Triangle Wine in Morrisville’s “Christmas in July” craft beer event is sure to cool you down. The event runs from 4-7pm and they will have around 20 different craft beers rotating through the taps. Saturday Hops, Hops, and more Hops! It’s harvest time! Farmboy Farms, one of the main suppliers of Malts and Hops to local breweries and home-brewers alike, is holding their 2014 Hop Harvest. So grab your scissors, water bottle, and family, and head on down to Pittsboro! There will be FREE water, FREE pizza, FREE Barley Juice (IPA Samples from some local breweries), and FREE high fives from anyone in a 919 Beer shirt! Harvest starts at 9 am and is guaranteed to be a sticky good time!   If you’re close to Morrisville, head over to Ruckus III for their taste of the Beercamp! Tickets for the event are $25 and include a 3 oz sample of all of the Collaborations, a full pour of your choice, and a commemorative 10 oz snifter. Taps begin to flow at 2pm. No matter what you choose, as long as it includes great friends and NC Craft Beer, you can’t go wrong! Check back with us next week as we continue to let you know “What’s...
